Sunway Carnival Mall, Located in Seberang Jaya, Penang, is getting a RM500 million renovation and expansion. The expansion will see it doubling its gross floor area to 1.45 million sq ft from the current 780,000 sq ft. Upon completion in year 2020, the net lettable area (NLA) will be increased from around 500,000 sq ft to 830,000 sq ft.
Situated in 12 acres land in the heart of thriving Seberang Jaya township, Sunway Carnival mall has established itself as a major suburban shopping mall since opening in 2007. The expansion will be implemented in phases with Phase 1 to be completed by November 2020, featuring more than 1.2 million sqft GFA with a new face lift.
Once complete, it will offer 450 retailers from the current 220 across both the new wing and existing wing, with half of the retailers offering fashion, 18% offering food and beverage and 32% in other trade categories.
Car park capacity will also increase from 1,100 bays to more than 3,000 bays with the incorporation of brand new upper floors and basement parking.
The expansion of Sunway Carnival Mall includes infrastructure and connectivity improvements surrounding the development with seamless connectivity from the Butterworth-Kulim Expressway (BKE) into the mall. Sunway is hopeful that this will reach out to a larger market catchment.
Sunway Construction Group Bhd (SunCon)’s unit has been appointed as the project delivery partner for the proposed expansion of a nine-storey commercial development to an existing mall.
In a filing with Bursa Malaysia today, SunCon said Sunway Construction Sdn Bhd (SCSB) accepted the letter of award by SA Architects Sdn Bhd, on behalf of Sunway REIT Management Sdn Bhd, which acts as the manager for Sunway Real Estate Investment Trust (Sunway REIT).
SCSB is tasked to plan, coordinate, build and complete the development to the existing Sunway Carnival Mall in Seberang Jaya within the project period of 32 months from March this year till November 2020.
Unitech has been appointed by Sunway for the provision of quantity surveying and cost management services for this expansion project.
