Sunshine Tower is a mixed development project at Bandar Baru Air Itam (popularly known as Farlim) on the Penang island with a gross development value (GDV) of RM1.2bil.
The project is strategically located on an over 3.64ha site within the Farlim township, which had direct access to a surrounding population of over 300,000. It is a re-development of the old Sunshine Farlim site, which is well-known with the locals for decades.
The entire project will be over 3.7mil sq ft of gross area, spread over three blocks of 38-storey buildings, comprises 270 units of serviced apartments, 144 units of small home offices (Sohos), a hypermarket, 300 retail outlets, a medical specialist centre, a 320-room business class hotel, and cineplexes.
The 9-storey retail podium includes 2-level basement floors with a total of 3,500 paring bays and a wellness centre. The retail podium will be anchored by Sunshine Farlim supermarket/ departmental store and all retail units will be retained for optimal mix including F&B outlets and multi-hall Cineplex.
The project is undertaken by Crimson Omega Sdn. Bhd., a wholly owned subsidiary of Suiwah Corporation Berhad. Suiwah is listed on the main board of Bursa Malaysia since 2005. The Group’s core business segment comprises a massive retail chain which includes Sunshine Square, Sunshine Farlim, Sunshine Lip Sin and Sunshine Bertam.
Work Package No. 1 which is for the construction and completion of Piling Works and Diaphragm Walls has recently been awarded to MCC Overseas (M) Sdn. Bhd., a subsidiary of China Metallurgical Group Corporation. This group is ranked No. 354 in 2014 Fortune Global 500.
This massive mixed development project was first reported here in November 2011. It was originally scheduled to be completed by 2015 but was delayed due to unfavorable conditions. As the construction works is in full swing, Sunshine Tower is set to be the jewel of Air Itam upon its new anticipated completion by 2019.
