Groundbreaking of Metro Specialist Hospital Expansion

Metro Specialist Hospital in Sungai Petani, Kedah will undergo a massive expansion in the next three years. The groundbreaking for the new expansion was officiated by YBhg. Dato’ Dr. Othman Wajiro, Director of Health, Kedah in a ceremony held on 7 August 2023.

The expansion consists of a new 7-storey medical block with over 200 beds, consultants’ suites, inpatient accommodation and the relocation of clinical facilities such as the A&E, Operating Theatres, ICU/CCU and other supporting facilities.

Established in 1993, Metro Specialist Hospital has since expanded from two shop lots and four specialists on July 5, 1993 as Bersatu Medical Centre until is present premise with 120 beds, 24 specialists and 3 medical officers.

Unitech has been entrusted by the Metro’s Board of Directors in the provision of professional quantity surveying and cost management services for this new expansion project. This is another appointment Unitech has secured after the successful completion and commissioning of Phase 1 of the Island Medical City (known as Island Hospital, Peel Wing) at Georgetown, and Sunway Medical Centre at Seberang Jaya.
